OMV on the incident in the Baumgarten gas distribution station

This morning an explosion and subsequent fire occurred in the Baumgarten gas distribution hub of Gas Connect Austria (GCA), a subsidiary in which OMV holds 51%.

OMV is deeply affected by the fact that people were hurt in this incident. One person was killed and 21 people injured, one of whom is in severe condition. OMV CEO Rainer Seele: “On behalf of the entire OMV Executive Board and every OMV employee, we express our deepest sympathy and sorrow for this loss. In these difficult times, our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and all of those injured.”

The GCA Baumgarten gas distribution station is one of Central Europe’s most important gas hubs. Following the incident, the facility has been shut down on safety grounds and the authorities have started their investigations. Gas supply in Austria is currently secure.
